Designed in 1973, the Maralunga sofa by Vico Magistretti from Cassina is elegant and comfortable. Instead of the typical, expected treatment of back cushions resting upon or behind the seat cushions, Magistretti envisioned a seat back that would fold over to create back cushions that appear to levitate above each seat cushion visually. When not employed as such, the backrest is unfolded to create an erect tall cradle functioning as neck support for lounging.
